How do I remove ink stains from carpet in Nairobi?
Ink stains are among the most challenging carpet stains and must be treated immediately. The type of ink (ballpoint, printer, marker) affects the treatment.
By Ink Type
Ballpoint Pen Ink
- Apply isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol — available at Nairobi pharmacies) to a clean white cloth
- Dab — do not rub — the stain from the outside inward
- The ink should transfer to the cloth; use a fresh area of cloth as each section becomes soiled
- Apply cold water and blot dry
- Repeat until the stain fades
Printer / Toner Ink
- Brush off any dry toner with a stiff brush first (vacuum will spread it)
- Apply isopropyl alcohol and blot as above
- Toner can permanently bond to carpet fibres if not treated immediately
Permanent Marker
- Permanent marker is particularly difficult — isopropyl alcohol is still the first treatment
- For Sharpie or similar: nail polish remover (acetone) can work on synthetic carpet fibres, but test on a hidden area first as it may damage some carpet types
- Professional treatment recommended for large or set permanent marker stains
General Rules
- Never use hot water on ink — it can spread and set the stain
- Work from outside inward to prevent spreading
- Blot only — rubbing spreads ink across a wider area
